Named after the iconic rock formation just off the coast, much of the Big Rock area was previously owned by William Randolph Hearst. In 1944, Hearst sold the lower half of the area to Art Jones, an early Malibu real estate agent. The homes along Big Rock's terraced roads offer stunning views of the ocean, islands, and the city lights, often referred to as the Queen's Necklace. Beyond the Big Rock neighborhood, Big Rock Drive extends uphill along the edge of Tuna Canyon Park to Big Rock Mesa.
This area, known for its large lots and breathtaking vistas, was ranked as the ninth most expensive neighborhood in Los Angeles for the third quarter of 2018 by Property Shark.
